Mathematics Education Professional Development

Steven is available to present Professional Development sessions for primary and middle school mathematics teachers.

His special PD program is entitled Active Maths PD.

Active Maths PD

Helping teachers help students understand mathematics concepts, skills & processes.

Professional Development sessions can be held on student-free days, during school days or at after-school meetings.

Session Topics

Activities, games and challenges for teaching mathematics:

(i) numeration & number operations for whole numbers, decimal fractions & common fractions;

(ii) measurement;

(iii) geometry;

(iv) chance & data;

(v) problem solving;

(vi) mathematics investigations;

(vii) motivational activities;

(viii) the literacy of numeracy;

(ix) catering for gifted & talented students; &

(x) interpreting Naplan numeracy results

Underlying principles

(a) Students make meaning in mathematics through experiences with suitable concrete and visual materials using associated language;
(b) Students respond positively to motivating real-world contexts, and interesting and challenging problems;
(c) Students solve problems better when they connect mathematical symbols with concrete materials and language;
